Installation Technician (welding)
Position Description:
Reporting to the Installation Supervisor, Installation Tech’s main responsibility is to perform work on Bulk Plan Propane systems. This could include pipe or plate welding projects in the shop or in the field. In addition to welding responsibilities, the Installation Tech will work with the Installation Supervisor or Job Foreman in multiple other roles as necessary to complete the project. This position will at times work independently on smaller projects. This is a safety-sensitive position.
Essential Functions
The responsibilities of an Installation Tech include, but are not limited to:
Construction
- Install and verify operation of piping, valves, meters and related storage equipment.
- Perform duties by Cutting, Threading, and Welding to meet the design of the systems we are installing.
- Work closely with the Engineering and Design team to ensure original drawings are matched in the field.
- Repair and fabricate tanks and piping as necessary.
- Repair and maintain tools and equipment.
- Ensure compliance with all established standards and procedures for joining materials.
- Maintain a current body of knowledge concerning products and methods for joining materials.
- Maintain an adequate inventory of supplies and materials for operations assigned.
- Complete logs, reports, work orders, requisitions, and other records and communications as required.
- Support other areas of the Installation Department as needed, including civil work, tank setting, and tank and pipe painting.
Work Conditions
- Out of town travel is required.
- Overtime as required.
- Work is performed in an outdoor setting, which could include inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust and asphalt.
- Use of Personal Protection Equipment is required.
- Use of sunscreen, long sleeves, and appropriate headgear is recommended.
- Must comply with the company’s drug and alcohol testing requirements.
Physical Requirements
The physical demands described below must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
- Must be physically able to repetitively lift and carry at least 75 lbs. on a regular basis.
- Required to stand for extended periods of time, ability to sit for intermittent periods of time.
- Required to walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, twist and bend.
- Required to reach with hands and arms, push items overhead,
- Required to talk, hear, and see. Vision requirements for this position include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, ability to adjust focus and ability to differentiate between colors.
- Required to climb stairs and ladders.
- Required to enter and work in confined spaces and at heights.
- Dexterity is mandatory as this job requires frequent use of hands and fingers, including operation of power tools and equipment.
- Required to wear Personal Protective Equipment according to OSHA guidelines or outlined in company policy.
Required Education and Experience
- High School Diploma or GED
- Basic Knowledge of propane and related equipment.
- Completed basic CETP (Certified Employee Training Program) or equivalent propane industry training.
- Able to read schematics and detailed site drawings.
- Good written and oral communication skills.
- The ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
Additional Eligibility Qualifications
- Installation Technicians will be placed into categories based on skill level:
- Installation Foreman
- Installation Technician II
- Installation Technician I
- Ability to lift loads up to 75 lbs, traverse construction sites, climb stairs and ladders, and enter confined spaces.
- Ability to work in the elements and in environments containing:
- Chemical Factors: Dust, Fumes.
- Physical Factors: Attention to safety; High Voltage and Ionizing Radiation;
- Personal Protection Equipment: Eye/face, Foot, Hand, Hearing Protection and Respirators if required.
